Semester 1 Fall 2005

1) "The Language of our People" --Hebrew Ulpan:

a. Classroom course in Hebrew language covering basic skills in Hebrew
Grammar and diction. Sunday through Wednesday from 8:30 A.M to 10:00 A.M.

b. Creative Hebrew speaking course taught through interactive and
alternative methods of learning conversational Hebrew. Sunday through Wednesday from 10:15 to 11:45

 

2) "The Land That I Will Show You"--History of the Promised Land

a. An engaging look at the land of Israel throughout Jewish history.
Survey of the development of the land and the civilizations that occupied it during thousands of years of history. The class will act as a prerequisite for the second semester History of the Jewish people in the land of Israel. Sunday and Tuesday from 3:00 P.M. to 4:15 P.M.

 

3) TaNaCH-From Adam and Eve to the Second Commonwealth, history and
messages from the source itself.

a. Survey of the 24 books of the Bible. Students will be exposed to
the major narratives of Tanach with an emphasis on overarching themes that are conveyed in the Biblical Word. The class will be offered Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday at 4:30 P.M. to 6:00 P.M.

b. "Kum Hithalech Ba'aretz" Source class. A preparatory class for
students to ready themselves for the following day Tiyul. The student will be expected to have covered the subject matter of the Tiyul in the sources. The class will take place Wednesday 4:30 P.M. to 6:00 P.M.

 

4) Contemporary Israel: The Issues Confronting the Modern State

a. The course will explore the political, social, and religious
realities in Modern Day Israel. The student will be exposed to the system of government, the diverse cultures, the beauty and the struggle of living the Zionist dream. The course will take place on Mondays 3:00 P.M. to 4:15 P.M.

 

5) Introduction to Rabbinic Literature

a. Survey of Rabbinic literature from the Midrash Agada to the Talmud,
to the Kuzari and Responsa. The student will become familiar with the process of codification of Jewish law as well as the transmission and development of the law throughout the millennia of Jewish History. The class will take place on Wednesdays from 3:00 to 4:15 P.M.
